Week 3

Principles of Product Management

  1. This week is what distinguishes Unlearn Product from any other courses out there
  2. We want you to understand the Fundamental Principles and the real problems behind their problems. Return to the **first principles to understand the problem before solving it. We help you inculcate this thought process this week.
  3. To give you an example - Suppose you were a Product Manager at Uber, and you were asked to solve the problem of cancellations by the driver.
  4. If you would solve this problem by penalizing the drivers for canceling or you have other ideas even before you read the whole problem, we would teach you how to av*oid these instincts* and focus on the atomic problem.
  5. Why is the driver canceling the ride? You talk to some drivers and figure out that the passenger is not paying cash.
  6. Now your question should be why the drivers want cash, and then you figure out that because the card payments take two days to settle, and they need some cash to fill the gas in their vehicle.
  7. So now your whole solution should change, as you have found the root of the problem. You will be solving the - Why does card payment take 2 days to settle for the driver rather than canceling rides by the driver?
